YOURSAY | ‘It is feckless for Liow to shy away from even giving his personal opinion.’

MCA chief clams up on Pahang mufti's ‘kafir harbi’ controversy

FellowMalaysian: While a state mufti openly threatened non-Muslims by labelling them as 'kafir harbi', MCA leader Liow Tiong Lai could not even offer a proper response.

Instead of condemning outright such an incendiary statement which was meant to incite hatred and animosity, Liow chose to gloss over this sensitive issue.

It is downright feckless for Liow to shy away from even giving his personal opinion on the matter. For doing that, Liow deserves a pie in his face.

Amateur: Ministers from MCA, Gerakan and MIC recently threatened to resign if Abdul Hadi Awang's Private Member’s Bill on hudud is passed in Parliament.

Now faced with the accusation that those opposing hudud should be killed as kafir harbi, none of the ministers who threatened to resign earlier have tendered their resignation.

I trust voters now are capable of judging their true characters.

Odin Tajué: Liow, in the annals of the MCA from the time it was founded (Feb 27, 1949) till the end of time, you are the president that stands well out from and leagues above all other presidents of the party.

The unequivocal stand that you have taken - and, of course, will continue to take - in the defence of the Chinese community and its rights, and your fearlessness, uprightness and integrity as illustrated here, are stuff legends are made of.

Wg321: Liow has not received the green light from PM Najib Razak. That is why he is still thinking whether to condemn this mufti from Pahang who threatened bloodshed against the Chinese and others.

Anonymous 1595491436431853: It means he has yet to get the script on what to say from his big boss.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: Seriously, what does this man do as the leader of his party?

When such distasteful and harmful remarks are made against people of other communities and he doesn't comment on it immediately, it really makes him an irrelevant individual not worth anyone's time.

Liow, if you do not have the courage to speak up for your community, you should hang your boots and call it a day.

Skippy: I wonder what would happen if someone actually does kill a non-Muslim? Would he be tried under the criminal code or Syariah Court?

Can the assailant use as his defence that his religion (also our country's official religion) and his religious leaders encourage such actions? Pray that we never find out.

Najib: Reject anti-Islam groups and their collaborators

RM2.6 Billion Turkey Haram: Najib, I support you fully in advising people to reject anti-Islam groups. Can you be more specific? Is there any such group which is anti-Islam? If yes, please name them.

You would do the nation good for we can be aware of such unwanted elements. Without naming them, I take it that you are merely talking nonsense.

Hibiscus: A religion, when institutionalised, breeds followers who are blind to reason and who are devoid of love of others not belonging to their religion.

Therefore, it can become a deadly tool to be used by politicians to hold on to power, especially by those who realise their corrupt ways are detested by the voters.

Politicians using religion to retain power can incite violence, resulting in destruction of places of worship of other religions, and even cause bloodshed. They do this through making hate speeches and spreading lies.

All peace-loving Malaysians must reject such politicians if the country is to progress and have its place among the civilised and developed nations, and be well-respected by them.

K Karim: The extreme actions of those who claim to be Muslims may be a result of their ignorance, frustration, uncontrolled anger or political (not religious) ambitions.

Anyone who condones or commits an act of terrorism in the name of Islam is simply not following Islam and is, in fact, violating its very tenets.

Gen2: Indeed, it's not about anti-Islam. It's about the people who cannot be trusted to implement Islamic law, those who manipulate Islam for their personal or political agenda.

It's about hypocrites who do magic with RM2.6 billion of our money and then have the gall to tell us to return to the true Islam.

CQ Muar: During this holy month of Ramadan, the non-Muslims in this country assure all devout Muslims we share and respect their faith from the bottom of our hearts.

We had lived and shared the good life together; God willing, such sentiments and respect must eternally prevail.

This mutual co-existence and bond must continue whilst we pride ourselves as true and loyal citizens of this beloved nation.

Let us not be influenced and fall prey to false teachings and deviant preachers out to cause unrest and hatred. Let us live above those who advocate mistrust, and who do not cherish peace.
