An unemployed man who beat up his cousin and an uncle with a cane was sent to jail and imposed fines by the Magistrate's Court in Kuala Lumpur today, for two counts of voluntarily causing hurt.

Lim Kien Hooi, 36, admitted to committing the offences on Lim Show Ying, 47, and Lim Huat, 72, at a house in Jinjang, Sentul in Kuala Lumpur at about 4.30pm and 6.30pm respectively on July 1.

Magistrate Mohd Faizal Ismail sentenced him to five days in jail and RM2,000 fine in default two months on the first count, and five days in jail and RM2,500 fine in default two months on the second count.

Kien Hooi was ordered to serve his jail terms concurrently from the date of his arrest on July 1.

According to the facts of the case, Show Ying, a restaurant worker, suffered injuries to her leg and both hands while Huat was injured on his right hand and left arm after he made a police report on the incident.

In mitigation, Kein Hooi who was unrepresented, asked for a lighter sentence, saying he did not have a job and was remorseful of his action.

However, deputy public prosecutor Noorelynna Hanim Abd Halim urged the court to impose an appropriate sentence in the interest of the public and Kien Hooi's family members.
