Sarawak DAP Youth wants Pahang mufti Abdul Rahman Osman to be terminated from his post for labelling the DAP as 'kafir harbi'.

Scholars say the term is used to describe non-Muslims who are hostile to Islam and can be slain in warfare, prompting police to probe Abdul Rahman for sedition.

Sarawak DAP Youth leader Abdul Aziz Isa said such statements would undermine peace and safety.

"If the mufti of Pahang does not understand all this, then, he is no different from the (IS), which declares war on the world and inflicts harm through murder and suicide bombings," Aziz said in a statement.

"We do not need a religious fanatic in any religious institutions in Malaysia."

Abdul Rahman earlier said the DAP and other non-Muslims opposing the PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s Private Member's Bill in Parliament, which could pave the way for the hudud, are 'kafir harbi'.

This led to PKR Youth religious bureau chief Wan Ji Wan Husin to lodge a police report on Abdul Rahman’s statement.

Abdul Rahman has declared that he will not retract or apologise for his statement.

The Prime Minister's Office said Abdul Rahman's statement was distorted.

It said non-Muslims in Malaysia are not kafir harbi as long as they remain citizens and do not wage war against the rulers.
