‘Reezal, it was no burden really as no one forced us to donate’

YOURSAY | ‘Even if they did not ask, I would have still wanted to donate.’

Reezal: Lim shouldn’t burden the public with donations

Dont Just Talk: Penang Umno deputy chairperson Reezal Merican Naina Merican, the public is not burdened by donating RM10 to Lim Guan Eng (LGE) for his bail but felt proud for having denied the government the pleasure of holding him in jail.

Since the Penang CM did not receive any kickbacks from the 1MDB financial scandal and has no means to cough out the RM1 million bail, all ‘bersih’ Malaysians felt duty-bound to help him out.

The RM1 million was raised within 24 hours, which must have hurt Umno Baru leaders' ego.

YHJ: Oh please, Reezal, don't pretend to be so concerned about the rakyat being burdened by a token donation of RM10 for LGE. We would gladly donate more.

Where is your concern for the rakyat who are being allegedly robbed by the billions in the 1MDB scandal? This generation and the next will be burdened by your allegedly scheming boss.

Bluemountains: The people came forward and donated on their own free will. DAP and LGE did not point a gun to the people's heads and forced them to part with their money.

And DAP and LGE would not ask for public donations should they also have a generous Arab donor.

Why is Umno-BN suddenly so concerned about the people being burdened? Did they ever think of the people when they imposed the GST (goods and services tax) and abolished subsidies?

Did they think of the people when they passed the RM42 billion 1MDB burden to them? Did they think of the people when the ringgit and the stock market plummeted?

TC Chan: If LGE couldn’t come up with the money, he would be remanded in custody pending trial, which could be months away. Which is why DAP used the party’s money for the bail and later ask for donations from the public to replenish its coffers.

So technically it wasn't LGE who asked. But then I suspect our ministers are not that smart to see the difference. LGE has been, and will always be, a BN marked man.

Tholu: Umno is now scouring the most trivial of excuses to demonise and demoralise Guan Eng and his party.

Reezal, we, the supporters of Pakatan Harapan, donated voluntarily and enthusiastically. It is your government that has burdened us with the implementation of GST, by raising public transport fares indiscriminately and continuously hiking toll rates which we are forced to assume and reluctantly and grudgingly pay, not donate.

Ipoh Pp: They asked for RM10, but I donated RM100. So if you are not donating, why speak up against it? We have a mind of our own, so mind your own business.

Jbsuara: PM Najib Razak has shown a clear precedence of refusing to step aside as PM when he was questioned on his role in the 1MDB scandalous saga despite the call for him to do so.

Reezal did not raise this matter when it was an issue. Hence, he is a great hypocrite and lowly bigot for his call for LGE to step down.

Goldee: Probably they will charge LGE for accepting the RM1 million donation.

They would say any money donated to LGE as CM, who is a public figure, is considered corruption. That is, unless he holds a higher post than CM.

CQ Muar: Raising the donation was a necessity in view of the hefty RM1 million bail, and the sum raised was on a voluntary and willing basis from donors.

It was evident that the people understand and know the agenda behind the arrest. Reezal, Guan Eng did not have the billions coming from dubious Arabs, unlike your leader, Najib.

As for LGE's intention to hold an information session to explain to the people over the issue of his prosecution, the purpose is not to ask them to pass judgement.

With such base understanding and low mentality, this doubled your level of stupidity. Indeed, how you became a deputy foreign minister is a wonder.

Myrights: Who are you to tell me who I should donate to? DAP did not burden me.

In fact, even if they did not ask, I would have still wanted to donate. Why?

Not because I so much love DAP or LGE, but I really despise the allegedly corrupted people in Umno and BN.

Vijay47: We have Reezal holding that voluntary contributions from the public towards Guan Eng's bail was somehow a burden to them without Arab relatives.

After his long hibernation, Reezal perhaps felt that it would be wiser to make some statement however unwise it be lest Najib thought him not supportive enough.

It must be extremely galling despite the sustained abuse of national institutions by Umno, Guan Eng's popularity has actually soared.

Then the great leader himself suddenly surfaces to advise the world about the dangers of Islamic no-place-for-them terrorism.

Strange, nobody recalls him being equally concerned when Muslim fanatics at home were having a field day, including the scholarly mufti of Pahang's pious clarion call to kill non-Muslims.
