Eighth suspect arrested in Bill Kayong murder case

Police have picked up the eighth suspect in connection with the investigation into the murder of Miri PKR branch secretary Bill Kayong on June 21, Sarawak CID chief SAC Dev Kumar MM Sree Shunmugam said today.

He said the 28-year-old man was arrested by the police special task force about 10.30pm yesterday, at an entertainment centre in Piasau Utara 1, in Miri.

"The task force has reason to believe that this suspect can shed more light on the murder. He will be produced in the Miri Magistrate's Court this afternoon for remand," he said in a statement.

Dev Kumar said six suspects were still under remand while one was released, after the application for remand was rejected by the court.

He also said that the police would apply for extension of the remand of the six suspects.

Kayong, 43, an advocate of social issues, was shot dead in his Toyota Hilux pickup vehicle while waiting at a traffic light intersection in Miri on June 21.
