Sarawak Report reveals second Bank Negara letter

Whistleblower site Sarawak Report has published more documents from the classified 1MDB audit report, this time revealing what it claimed to be another Bank Negara letter sent to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the troubled state sovereign wealth fund.

The letter explained why Bank Negara cancelled its permission for 1MDB to send US$1.83 billion overseas between 2009 and 2011.

Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamad said police are probing the leak of the auditor-general's 1MDB report, which has been sealed under the Official Secrets Act (OSA), by Sarawak Report.

PAC member Tony Pua, who is Petaling Jaya Utara parliamentarian, urged the government to declassified the 1MDB audit report, now that it has been leaked.

Meanwhile, constitutional law expert professor Abdul Aziz Bari said the Agong can unblock attempts to hide the auditor-general's findings on 1MDB.

IGP denies issuing IS warning

Also in the news, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar denied that police had issued a warning to steer clear of public areas such as Bukit Bintang and Bangsar due to the Islamic State (IS) threat.

American analyst Meredith Weiss said Malaysia should prepare itself as it may face more IS attacks, while the US Embassy in Kuala Lumpur urged its citizens to practise caution following the Puchong blast.

On a related matter, controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik blamed speakers who misguided Muslims for terrorism, including the recent Dhaka attack.
