Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad says his camp and the opposition will not attack PAS if they are not attacked first.

Speaking at a press conference in Putrajaya today, Mahathir said the factions joined together under the Save Malaysia banner, had agreed to have a ceasefire among themselves.

"We agreed to a suggestion to have a ceasefire among us.

"Not with those who are partly with the government and partly with the opposition," he said.

This is believed to be a reference to PAS, which had grown closer to the ruling BN coalition after the demise of Pakatan Rakyat, but still maintains it is part of the opposition.

When asked to elaborate on whether they would have a ceasefire with PAS, Mahathir replied: "We hope (they) will not attack us and we will not attack them."

His remarks comes a day after PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man called for a stop to fighting among the opposition parties.

In calling for the ceasefire, Tuan Ibrahim yesterday said opposition parties should instead train their guns on Umno-BN.

He said opposition parties must compromise without sacrificing their core ideals in order to focus on the “real enemy”.
