'You give up on friends and would rather trust the enemy'

PAS ulama information chief Khairuddin Aman Razali’s denial that there is any attempt by PAS to be part of Pakatan Harapan is “saddening”.

DAP Youth international secretary Howard Lee said this in response to Khairuddin, who said PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s call for a ceasefire should not be interpreted as an attempt to be part of Pakatan Harapan.

“How easy it is for them to give up on friends but it doesn’t seem hard for them to place their hope on the main enemy of all Malaysians,” Lee said in a statement today.

Although Lee did not mention who this ‘main enemy’ is, he was apparently referring to claims of close ties between Umno and PAS.

Although Pakatan Harapan is open to cooperating with those who want to defeat BN, it will not waste time with those who do not respect the hopes of Malaysians, said Lee.

The Pasir Pinji assemblyperson also countered Khairuddin’s claim that a two-party system was destructive, pointing out that such a system system would ensure Umno’s reign will end.

“This has been proven mathematically in the previous two general elections,” Lee said.

PAS, instead, would just be lalang (weeds) in the fight to defeat Umno if it continues to only prioritise its political survival, he said.

On Khairuddin's remarks that PAS had closed their eyes to DAP's wrongs, Lee said it was not right for him to say this, after years of cooperation between the two parties at the grassroots level.

“In fact, it’s only a disgrace for PAS as it seems that it has closed its eyes when facing Umno’s corruption and scandals. Umno, which is now its ‘partner’ although there was no officiating ceremony.

“If PAS is so confident with their slander against DAP and is doubtful of cooperation within the Pakatan Rakyat framework, it should therefore resign from its posts in the Selangor state government,” added Lee.
