More than 200 PAS supporters gathered near the Myanmar embassy in Kuala Lumpur today to protest the country's treatment of the Rohingya community.

The gathering was organised by PAS' Federal Territories Youth wing in collaboration with other NGOs such as Muslim Care Malaysia (MCM).

The demonstration was an act of solidarity and to call for action against the Myanmar government for their persecution of the Rohingyas.

It was held along Jalan Madge after the group was prevented from entering the embassy.

Chants of “Hidup Islam” (Long Live Islam) echoed across the street as protestors held various signs and banners.

“Dear Suu Kyi, we are all (the) same human being. Please act like one,” read one sign.

Among those present at the demonstration were PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man and PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh Nik Aziz.

“Today we only bathe in sweat while our brothers continue to bathe in blood, protecting their pride,” Tuan Ibrahim told the crowd.

He also highlighted the Rohingyas' suffering, and pleaded for the Malaysian government and Muslim countries to take necessary action.

A Rohingya spokesperson from the Ethnic Committee of Arakan Malaysia was also present to thank PAS for its efforts.

The demonstration dispersed peacefully at around 4pm after a short prayer.

In an earlier statement, PAS Youth deputy chief Muhammad Khalid Abdul Hadi urged Malaysia to send peacekeeping troops in Myanmar to safeguard the Rohingya community.

In 2015, thousands of Rohingya refugees fled Myanmar by sea in an attempt to escape persecution from the government.
