The dumb people in this country

Negarawan: Dr Mahathir Mohamad, thank you for writing as it is. One important point you missed it that the security of our country is being seriously compromised by corruption at the highest levels in the government.

The government is now highly dependent on China to buy the massive debts accumulated by 1MDB. Various assets and land parcels have been sold to China, with more to come. This is why the government is acting dumb on China's hegemony in the South China Sea.

Other Southeast Asian countries like the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam which are disputing the occupation of the Spratly Islands by China have taken the matter to The Hague. China has already some control over Malaysia in this sense.

A certain individual in the government has received billions in his personal bank accounts from unidentified Saudi Arabians. As we know, Saudi is in critical financial distress because of the plunge in oil revenues.

The Saudis might "blackmail" this individual to obtain public funds from Malaysia.

Real Truth: Where did we go wrong, when we as a nation fail to distinguish right from wrong?

Is it our education system or lack of moral studies or failure of our religious schools to teach what is right and wrong?

The whole nation is spiralling out of control as majority are unable to fathom what is wrong with the nation. I only know that we are not setting a good example for the next generation.

Anonymous_1429360962: Former PM Dr Mahathir Mohamad, your article is both funny and humorous and at the same time educational and informative. It was good reading material and should be read by as many Malaysians as possible.

Thank you and we hope to be reading more of your writings and views. We do hope that you will, in the very near future, be our champion for those who were and still are, deprived and sidelined and misguided and taken advantage of by the most corrupt and totalitarian administration ever.

Anonymous_1388029052: Yes, beautifully spoken by Dr M. He knows well what he's saying on the administration.

Indeed, going for the haj on stolen money is a sacrilege! There is no point praying five times a day and constantly shouting that people are insulting Islam when you have allegedly looted and abused the country's coffers.

Clever Voter: Indeed, these individuals are not dumb. They could well be part of the feeding chain, where membership demands strong patronage and undivided loyalty.

It’s not one but hundreds of them, if not thousands. Not forgetting, too, are the extra runners who also have to be fed and taken care of.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: PM Najib Razak should show us, the people, respect by resigning from his posts because the evidence is very clear that he has no idea how to run a country.

Apart from the alleged massive misappropriation of public funds, there is also the problem of him and his government, of creating divisions amongst the races and those of different religions.

He is not a leader this country can count on. And all those in his government who support and behave similarly just do not deserve the power they have in their hands.

In any other country, his leadership would have been put to bed a long time ago. Why is he still there?

The Analyser: Maybe, just maybe, some people think there are more important issues to be dealt with than your obsession with jealousy of Najib's success as an alleged criminal.

Mahathir is behaving as he always has. He is assuming that he is still the great despot and the whole world will do as he says.

Unfortunately for Malaysia, succeeding generations of politicians both within Umno and without have adopted the same sort of autocratic approach to governance.

Having seen how successful you were, they wonder why their attempts have resulted in such abject failure. The secret... Malaysians.

Your total disrespect for the people of Malaysia and the total disrespect shown by subsequent generations of politicians has now turned around and bitten this country. The amazing thing is that neither you nor the present-day politicians have woken up to reality.

Vent: I must say I'm dumbfounded by the sheer simplicity of Mahathir's creative writing style. The only saving point about his manic vengeance is that it is directed at the person we despise the most.

One Malaysia: One could cheer at this very clear, honest and even inspiring piece, except most would not accept his analysis without his first acknowledging his role in the present corruption and the arrogant leadership we are faced with.

Najib learnt well from you. And uniting the opposition will first require holding out a reconciliatory hand to former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim and his wife.

Nes: Dear Dr M, my dog and I would have roll all over the floor laughing, if not for the country in such dire straits. You should know best because for 22 years you have been nurturing these dumb people.

Just a Malaysian: Tun, we cried when you destroy all check and balances. You let the racists loose on the Chinese when we complained. You jailed and punished dissidents. You brought in passive and obedient leaders.

You got rid of good people who dare to stand up against you. You have succeeded beyond expectations and now we inherited this rotten government and Najib.

Shibboleth: As a doctor, you have correctly diagnosed this ‘dumb’ disease. But what you may have forgotten is that you were the one who incubated the ‘dumb’ bacteria and infected your successors.
