GMM wants M’sia to call OIC meeting on recent attacks

The Global Movement of Moderates (GMM) urged the Malaysian government to call and to convene an emergency meeting among member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in light of the recent spate of attacks falsely attributed to Islam.

GMM’s chief executive officer Nasharudin Mat Isa said that in view of unremitting terror attacks taking place throughout the globe, now more than ever was the time to urge the world to turn away from reactionary violence, be it deeds or in words.

"A discussion and a solitary stance can be conveyed in not only denouncing recent terror acts that do not represent Islam.

"It is also will establish collective measures to counter the continuous escalation of Islamphobia narratives within the Western world, more so in reference to the recent tragedy in Nice, France," Nasharudin said in the statement today.

At least 80 people were killed and many others injured as a truck rammed into a crowd in Nice, southern France, yesterday.
