A promoter at a pub was found dead after she was allegedly beaten with a mop during a lover's spat at their flat in Taman Jinjang in Kuala Lumpur today.

Sentul district police chief ACP R Munusamy said following the incident, police arrested a technician who attempted to commit suicide by slashing his wrist.

Munusamy said the man was arrested about 6.35am, after police received a report on the incident.

He said the suspect was sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment, while the woman’s body was also sent to the same hospital for post-mortem.

"The suspect admitted having beaten his partner out of jealousy. He suspected the woman of having an affair with another man.

"The couple was said to have been arguing since last Thursday because she refused to go home and take care of their four-year-old daughter," Munusamy said.

He said the couple was not married and had been staying together for five years.

The suspect was said to have sent the daughter to the house of her grandfather (the victim's father) house at about 9pm yesterday.

Munusamy said the suspect would be held in remand until next Thursday for investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which is for murder.
