Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) will consider whether to cooperate with the new party that former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad wants to set up or otherwise.

Its president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said for the moment PKR is not stating its stand to cooperate with the new party to be set up by Dr Mahathir and it does not deny his right to set up a party.

"Not yet... he (Dr Mahathir) has not set it up, but it is indeed his right to set up a (new) party. I hear he also does not want to be president. Let's wait for Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin to come to a decision.

"We (PKR) will see first. We will see first because we must have similarity in our struggles and our every agenda must be the same," Wan Azizah told reporters after attending a Permatang Pauh Parliamentary Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House at Kubang Semang in Bukit Mertajam today.

Wan Azizah said she lauded anybody who wanted to be together and united in the principle of similarity.

On Thursday, Mahathir announced he would set up a new party that would become a component of the opposition pact to face the 14th general election.

Mahathir was reported to have said that the new party would be set up as the existing opposition parties were 'not attractive'.

Asked about the call by PAS to the opposition parties to stop attacking one another and to focus on attacking their actual enemies, namely Umno and the BN, Wan Azizah said PKR lauded the matter.

"We definitely laud it. We don't want to be attacking one another. What we want to attack is injustice, corruption and abuse of power," she said.
