Singapore PM arrives in Putrajaya for working visit

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong arrived in this administrative capital today for a one-day working visit and to witness the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on the proposed Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR).

Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak greeted Lee as he arrived at 1pm at the prime minister’s official residence, Seri Perdana in Putrajaya leading a delegation.

The Malaysian and Singapore leaders held a four-eyed meeting and attended a luncheon hosted by Najib prior to witnessing the HSR signing ceremony.

Najib and Lee are scheduled to hold a joint press conference after the signing ceremony.

The proposed 350km railway line will begin in Bandar Malaysia, seven km outside the Kuala Lumpur city centre, and end in Jurong East, Singapore.

The proposed train service is expected to slash travel time to about 90 minutes from about five hours by road now between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore.

The line is expected to have five transit stations, in Seremban, Ayer Keroh, Muar, Batu Pahat and Iskandar Puteri.

Najib said yesterday that the proposed KL-Singapore HSR would enhance people-to-people ties and improve business linkages between the two countries.
