PAS leaders, if you want ceasefire, go tell that to Hadi

YOURSAY | ‘True to PAS' opportunistic nature, they want to have the cake and eat it too.’

All Selangor PAS reps stand up for opposition 'ceasefire'

Aries46: The Selangor PAS representatives who initially shunned Amanah now realise that if they dance to party president Abdul Hadi Awang's tune, GE14 is the end of the road for them.

But true to PAS' opportunistic nature, they want to have the cake and eat it as well. They put one leg in Hadi's sarong and the other in deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man’s as a way out of their predicament.

The voters are no fools. Fair-minded voters will never forgive Hadi for betraying Pakatan Rakyat and colluding with PM Najib Razak, the living epitome of all that is rotten for this nation.

Voters will give them a lifeline provided they ditch Hadi and join forces with Pakatan Harapan. In fact, falling in line with Amanah is even better as it will salvage some credibility for them.

Alternatively, they are free to join Selangor Umno leader Noh Omar on his road to perdition.

Kim Quek: This is called pragmatism – giving cognisance to political realities. Except in Kelantan and Terengganu, PAS will be wiped out in the next election (parliamentary and state seats) if it stands alone.

Even when it joins Umno/BN, it will only be given a minor role in the over-crowded family of opportunists.

So, PAS is essentially faced with the following options:

a) Continue to stand alone, when it will eventually retreat to essentially Kelantan as a local party.

b) Join the openly corrupt Umno/BN to play a minor national role, for which it will have to betray its religious and moral principles.

c) Join with Pakatan Harapan, where it will play a major role to reform and shape the future of the country.

d) Ally with Pakatan with an electoral pact, through which it will at least have a fighting chance to retain some of its west coast seats, but spared of the shame of colluding with an openly sinful power.

Since options a) and b) appear rather unpalatable, it is expected that the pragmatism shown in Selangor will spread to other parts of the country.

Ferdtan: Yes, this support for their deputy president’s call for a ceasefire among the opposition is obviously a pragmatic move by these Selangor PAS lawmakers.

They know that without the support of the PKR-led state government, they may not retain their seats in next GE.

By handling out an olive branch, it allows Selangor MB Azmin Ali to continue the practice (as currently practiced due to its expediency to rule the state) of keeping PAS on side until the next GE.

Indeed, that would be strange, isn’t it? Imagine PAS in Selangor is part of the alliance with PKR and DAP, but elsewhere they are not. That is exactly Azmin’s dilemma, and we all know he was in favour of keeping PAS.

If these lawmakers did nothing to calm the opposition, Azmin may be pressured to drop them in favour of Amanah, a coalition partner of Harapan.

Let us wait and see whether such assertion by the Selangor PAS lawmakers is real or only a strategy to remain relevant.

Bluemountains: These 13 PAS state assemblypersons have finally awoken from their deep slumber.

What is taking them so long to realise that they are going to be routed at GE14 if they continue to listen to their supreme leader to sleep with Umno?

Hulu Klang state rep Saari Sungib dan Morib state rep Hasnul Baharuddin have already shown them the way two years ago.

Ghostwhowalks: And may I ask what you expect the progressive Amanah members going to do after the sacrifice they made by doing the right thing to leave the unprincipled PAS?

Expect them to sit out GE14 and let PAS stand in Selangor? After that, PAS can start the hudud musical game again ... and all will be jolly?

Wake up. Unless you get rid of Hadi and his gang in PAS, and reform the party with Tuan Ibrahim in charge and make a solemn promise not to bring up hudud again, failing which Pakatan is better off without them.

Hank Marvin: All these MPs and Aduns (state reps) are stupid and dumb. They just follow whatever is decreed by Hadi.

They do not seem to realise that the opposition coalition is broken by now, and these bunch of fools are terrified of losing their position.

Dear fools, the voters already made decision about you that unless you leave PAS, you won't get their vote.

Kamikasi: How can you walk with your friends but sleep with your enemies? PAS is confused actually, or rather this is Hadi's tactic to fool the opposition.
