Sistem Televisyen Malaysia Bhd (TV3) has filed an appeal over having to pay former Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin a total of RM200,000 in damages for defaming him.

The ruling on damages was made last week by a deputy registrar at the Kuala Lumpur High Court.

Nizar's lawyer Mohd Fitri Asmuni said the matter has been fixed for case management on July 28 before a High Court judge.

It was previously reported that Nizar had filed the suit against TV3 and Utusan Malaysia following their report over the WWW1 license plate issue.

Initially Nizar lost his suit against TV3 at the High Court but the Court of Appeal reversed the decision and asked the High Court to assess the damages.

TV3 then brought the case to the Federal Court and made claims of judicial bias, but this was unanimously dismissed by the Federal Court.

Despite the Federal Court's decision, the television station's final appeal along with Utusan Malaysia against Nizar has yet to be fixed.
