Deputy inspector-general of police Noor Rashid Ibrahim said the police will be fair in investigating MyWatch chairperson R Sri Sanjeevan's claims that he was tortured in Kuala Lumpur police detention during his remand under the Prevention of Crime Act 1959 (Poca).

"We will give him all the opportunity to lodge a report, so if he feels that he was tortured he can do so.

"If he lodges a police report we will investigate the matter fairly," he said during a press conference at federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman today.

Yesterday, Sanjeevan claimed that he was beaten and denied food and medication while in remand.

According to his lawyer Gobind Singh Deo, Sanjeevan brought the matter up during court proceedings in Seremban where he was being charged with two separate charges.

He claimed that he was handcuffed, blindfolded and even beaten.

Other than that Sanjeevan also claimed that he was denied medication and food for entire day and complained that his request for medical attention for internal bleeding was not entertained.

He claimed that all this took place when he was held under remand in Kuala Lumpur for 21 days under Section 4(1) of Poca.

Sanjeevan also lodged a police report in Seremban police station yesterday afternoon over the alleged abuse he suffered in detention.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Amar Singh told Malaysiakini yesterday that the police are not aware of the allegations, but would investigate if Sanjeevan lodges a police report.
