Selangor PAS party wings have expressed regret at the state government's approval of the Selena Gomez Live in Malaysia Revival tour which is slated to be held at Melawati Stadium in Shah Alam on July 25.

This evening, state Islamic party's Ulama wing chief Riduan Rahmat, deputy state Youth chief Hanifi Zulkapli and the Muslimah chief Wan Hasrina Wan Hassan handed over a memorandum to the State Secretariat in Shah Alam on the matter. 

Riduan said that while PAS does not reject entertainment, concerts like Gomez's are potentially destructive and can lead to social problems among the youth.

"PAS actually allows entertainment, but (not) when it can lead to depravity and destruction.

"The concert issue is not about entertainment but about the conduct of the singer, who is known as a sex symbol and can damage our youth today," he told reporters at the state secretariat building.

Yesterday, Selangor MB Azmin Ali said that the concert will go ahead despite objections by PAS, as the organiser had abided by all the terms set by the state.

Azmin reportedly said that the sexy image of the singer is not important and should not be made an issue.

Commenting further, Riduan said his party regrets that "a Muslim MB would see this as a small issue".

Meanwhile, Hanafi said the consert should be stopped as it may have bad influences on the next generation.

"Speaking for the youth, we do not want our young to fall prey to the extreme hedonistic culture and social problems as they are the ones that will be leading the nation in the future," he argued.

The memorandum of protest was accepted by the private secretary to the Selangor MB, Mohd Shahrizal Mohamad Salleh.

Shahrizal promised to convey the missive from the Selangor PAS wings to Azmin.

About a hundred PAS supporters accompanied the wings' leaders. 

However the memorandum was delivered without the presence of other PAS state executive council members or assemblypersons.
