Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said has rejected his appointment as a deputy chairperson of a state portfolio.

He was appointed deputy chairperson of the housing and local government committee, which is headed by Mohd Jidin Shafee, in a reshuffle of state executive council portfolios announced by Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abd Rahman yesterday.

Ahmad said he had learned of the appointment from the media but had not received any official notification.

"I feel that I should engage more in voluntary work than being paid a salary as I have retired," he told reporters after a meeting of the Persatuan Pribumi Perkasa in Kuala Terengganu. Also present was Perkasa chairperson Ibrahim Ali.

Ibrahim announced the appointment of Ahmad as the Terengganu president of Perkasa, succeeding Ismail Samah.
