Umno’s doublespeak when it comes to the royalty

YOURSAY | ‘Noh made the flimsiest illogical connection and blows it up out of all proportion.’

Insulting Jais is insulting S'gor sultan, Noh tells PKR

Vent: To say that since “the sultan is the head of religion in Selangor … questioning the religion, the sermon, is the same as questioning the sultan” is balderdash.

The sermon was surely not at the behest of the sultan. This is the conclusion of a mind not used to any intellectual exertion.

While Selangor Umno chief Noh Omar may be an idiot, it is becoming increasingly difficult for Menteri Besar Azmin Ali to hide his partisan views on PAS’ Islamo-fascism.

661423777312: Last month, for the first time in the history of our constitution, a bill became law without the consent of the Agong.

This was when the National Security Council Act 2016 (NSC Act), passed by the two Houses last December, was gazetted on June 7 without royal assent.

Under Article 44, Parliament consists of the Agong, Dewan Rakyat and Dewan Negara. Royal assent is needed for a bill to become law. But Umno bypassed the ruler.

What do you say about this, Noh?

Multi Racial: When it came from Umno leaders these days, it made you wonder what kind of politicians they have. Since when is the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) equated to royalty?

Insulting Jais is insulting the sultan? I am sure even the sultan cannot believe his name is being dragged into this.

It’s time for our politicians to grow up. Debate maturely and please don't invoke the royalties whenever you do know how to response.

Slumdog: Yes, Noh made the flimsiest illogical connection and blows it up out of all proportion.

Ah Hoe: HRH (His Royal Highness) Sultan of Selangor actually issued a royal instruction that mosques and surau in the state should not be used for politics, thus Jais in praising PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang had gone against HRH’s directive.

Jais should now be closed down for defying HRH's instruction. And Noh must now seek forgiveness from HRH for abetting an allegedly treasonous act by Jais.

HRH should also consider knighting PKR leader Darell Leiking with a datukship for his staunch defence of the Selangor royal realm against Jais' treason.

Roger 5201: So which is greater, our constitution or hudud? Does MCA's vehement opposition to PAS' hudud also make them ‘kafir harbi’, anti-Islam and anti-sultan? Did Jais not pen the Hari Raya sermon?

The sultan is the sultan of all his subjects - Muslims and non-Muslims - and it is in his interest to see everyone live in harmony.

Anonymous 1890491455255851: The Selangor Umno chief should really stop with his tired old remarks. There doesn't seem to be an ability to have a decent and respectable conversation here with regards to religion.

Pee-brained individuals like Noh will come out and find a way to turn it into an insult against the Muslim religion or insult against a religious leader.

Grow up, Noh Omar. Your remarks continually show us how backward you are, along with so many in Umno.

This is just a tired way of trying to project yourselves as defenders of the Muslim religion, when clearly it’s dirty politics.

ConstitutionIsSupreme: In my opinion, Jais is Jais, the sultan is the sultan; they are two different entities.

When someone in Jais makes a mistake, it cannot be said that the sultan makes a mistake. When someone in Jais says something, it cannot be said that this was said by the sultan.

Please do not try to involved HRH in politics. HRH is above politics and all must respect HRH.

661423777313: It works like this by "extension" or extrapolation or whatever you might call it. If say, you criticise Umno, Umno is all Malay, criticising Umno is akin to criticising Malays.

All Malays are Muslims, so a criticism of Umno can be extended to criticism of Malays and Islam. The ruler is head of the religion and so by further creative extension which Umno is expert at, a criticism of Umno can be extended to a criticism of Malays, Islam and the ruler.

Umno is world champion at these 'by extension' games. Similarly, a criticism of controversial preacher Zakir Naik can be also be deemed as a criticism of Islam as Zakir is Muslim.

This is the theory of extension, an Umno invention and it can always succeed in putting the opposition in deep trouble.

Ex-PJ: So by extension, all Muslims are terrorists?

Anonymous #70881335: Or going by this methodology, you must be insulting the Pope when you attack Christians.

FairMind: By the same token, those who question CM Lim Guan Eng is questioning the Agong because Lim is the head of Penang. Penang is in Malaysia over which the Agong is the head.

Also, anyone insulting my grandmother is insulting all women in the world. If we have politicians like Noh, who need politicians? Even my servant can be a politician.

Falcon: Indeed, it is insulting and improper to bring in our beloved HRH into daily administrative processes of agencies in a constitutional monarchy.

The acts and omissions of officers can be questioned and they should not and cannot seek immunity for ultra vires acts.

It is obvious why under siege politicians do it. They are actually bringing disrepute and controversy to the royal institution, and this must be condemned.

Mojo Jojo: Noh, need I remind you that a constitutional monarch is above politics. As such, your involvement of a monarch in your politics is highly inappropriate, to say the least.

Victor Johan: When all their conniving efforts fail, as usual, Umno disgustingly resorts to 'agama Islam, bangsa Melayu dan tanah Melayu' (religion, race and nation of the Malays).

Just who is threatened, Umno leaders or the greater Malay populace?

Iiiizzzziiii: There is an old cliche and it goes something like this, "I bow and kneel to no one except God." Perhaps there is some truth to it. No one is infallible, especially if you are a human being.

Everyone is entitled to his or her opinion as long as violence is not being used to enforce or compel others to embrace your opinion. This is life.

Hang Babeuf: Where will it all end? Can it ever? What about Selangor Water Supply, Syabas? Or Royal Selangor Pewter?
