Two men get life imprisonment for trafficking in firearms, grenades

Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment by the High Court in Johor Baru today after they were found guilty of an amended charge of trafficking in two revolvers and six hand grenades three years ago.

Judge Mohd Sofian Abd Razak also ordered the two accused, Tan Teck Seng, 48, a massage parlour operator, and Ng Cheng Boon, 49, a landscape contractor, to be given eight strokes of the cane for the offence.

According to the charge sheet, both of them from Johor Baru, were accused of trafficking in the firearms and grenades at a house in Blok E6, Jalan Permas 6/18, Bandar Baru Permas, Permas Jaya, in Johor Baru at about 5am on March 21, 2013.

They were charged under Section 7 of the Firearms (Increased Penalties) Act 1971, which was read together with Section 34 of the Penal Code.

Tan and Ng, were also sentenced to six months' jail for possessing two fake pistols and to seven years' jail for possessing 421 bullets on the same day and at the same time and place.

The duo were also sentenced to one year's jail for being in possession of 34.4gm of ketamine; six months' jail for possessing 4.87gm of chlorpheniramine; two years' jail and three strokes of the cane for possessing 5.55gm of methamphethamine; three months' jail for possessing 0.91gm of ketamine; and another one year's jail for possessing 312.278gm of chlorpheniramine.

They committed all the five drug offences on the same day and at the same time and place.

The court also ordered all the jail sentences to run concurrently from the date of their arrest on March 21, 2013.
