Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali has dismissed claims that the state legislative assembly will be dissolved to pave the way for a snap election.

“There will be no snap polls in Selangor.

"There are no discussions on this either,” he told reporters at the sidelines of a function in Taman Melawati.

He was responding to Chinese daily Nanyang Siang Pau, which claimed that leaders of the three Pakatan Harapan components parties have agreed to hold snap polls in Selangor and Penang.

The decision was purportedly reached during a recent meeting, where it was also agreed that DAP and PKR would swap four state seats.

The daily quoted a source who claimed Azmin had yesterday requested for budget allocations to hold snap state polls.

The report further claimed there were various indications that the Selangor government intends to simultaneously dissolve the state assembly with the Penang government.

Nanyang Siang Pau, meanwhile, also quoted an Amanah source who claimed that the party is unhappy with PKR’s decision to remain in cooperation with PAS in Selangor.

Penang is waiting for PKR’s nod to hold snap polls in the state, which is touted as a referendum on Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in view of his twin corruption charges.

Lim has claimed to be a victim of political persecution, but BN and the authorities have denied this.
