Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng should call for an emergency state legislative assembly sitting to discuss holding snap polls in the state, said Pulau Betong assemblyperson Muhammad Farid Saad.

This is to see if the majority of the 40 assemblypersons agree with DAP's proposal to hold the state snap election, said the BN state representative.

"The issue does not only involve DAP members but also the entire state and other assemblypersons from BN," Farid told a press conference today.

"DAP seems to be the only party that is engrossed in the idea of the snap polls while PKR is not convinced," he added.

Farid also called on all 19 of DAP's state representatives to resign, to pave the way for the snap polls.

In the 2013 national polls, Umno won 10 state seats in Penang, DAP's ally PKR won 10 and PAS one.

DAP is facing a snag in its call for snap polls as PKR has yet to be convinced of its necessity.

Lim called for early polls after he was slapped with two corruption charges related to the purchase of his RM2.8 million bungalow on Jalan Pinhorn.

He said they were trumped-up charges to end his political career, but authorities have denied the claims.
