The main take-away from his briefing by Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) treasurer Mohamad Norza Zakaria today, said Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, is that the football governing body is ridden with financial misuse.

“There are a lot of misuse of funds and unnecessary expenditure in FAM. This is something which should not happen!

“They are aware that there is a lot of mess that needs cleaning up in FAM,” said the prince in a posting on the Johor Southern Tigers Facebook page.

He described his meeting with the FAM treasurer as having gone very well.

Tunku Ismail added that Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin will be coming to see him in the coming days to discuss the matter further.

However, he refused to divulge details on the matter for now.

“Let me assure the fans that I will always be honest and transparent to all the fans and all of you can ask me anything regarding football when I hold my next Q&A session with the fans,” he concluded.

The prince had earlier claimed that he was given a pendrive containing an internal report detailing corruption in FAM, purportedly prepared by those inside the organisation.

The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission had said that it would welcome the information so that it could take action, though Tunku Ismail told the anti-graft body to mind its own business and other bigger unsolved cases and let him deal with the matter.

FAM had acknowledged that it is aware of existing internal corruption but is taking corrective measures, and had earlier agreed to meet with the prince over the matter.
