Loss of faith in K'tan gov't baseless, MB tells Umno

Kelantan Menteri Besar Ahmad Yakob has fended off Umno's call for a snap election in the state, saying the present state government is not facing any problems.

"There is no proof of loss of confidence in the PAS state government that we have to be urged to hold a state election, it's better we hold elections with the other states," Sinar Harian reported him saying today.

He was responding to Kelantan Umno deputy chief Ahmad Jazlan Yaakub, whom Sinar reported yesterday claiming infighting among Kelantan PAS leaders had eroded public confidence in the Islamist party.

"We still have the mandate, we are always striving to place the well-being of the rakyat first.

"It is possible the call for a snap election is a political matter only, PAS is still continuing its work in the state," he was reported saying.

He called Umno's claims baseless, saying PAS' executive committee members are working hard on their respective duties.

"It is still too early for state elections, we need to make preparations," he said.
