Get facts right before lodging police reports, says Puad Zarkashi
Police reports should not be made based on mere assumptions, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
He said this in response to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's statement that police will not investigate Umno Youth leader Khairul Azwan Harun.
This is over the police report Khairul Azwan lodged on a high-level conspiracy against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, which the IGP dismissed as being based on assumptions.
Police reports should not be made based on mere assumptions, said Umno supreme council member Mohd Puad Zarkashi.
Puad said this in response to inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar's statement that police will not investigate Umno Youth leader Khairul Azwan Harun.
This is over the police report Khairul Azwan lodged on a high-level conspiracy against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak, which the IGP dismissed as being based on assumptions.
“We shouldn't make police (reports), or any kind of reports, based on assumptions,” Puad said.
“Make sure that the facts are correct, so that no quarter gets victimised and that (the report) will not affect the good name of others, be it Umno or otherwise,” he told reporters after a Hari Raya event held at the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) last night.
Khalid said yesterday that the report by Khairul Azwan did not warrant further investigation and that the Umno Youth leader would not be investigated for making a false report.
In his report last week, Khairul Azwan named former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail of being involved in a plot to bring down Najib.
He claimed the three were suspected of providing classified information to foreign agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), without authorisation.
Puad, who is also Department of Special Affairs (Jasa) director-general, said it was up to the police what they wanted to do with a report that was made based on assumptions.
“And secondly, it’s up to the three Tan Sris to take action.
“If they are unhappy (or) feel victimised, they can lodge a counter police report or they can sue (Khairul Azwan),” Puad suggested.
