Umno Pulau Betong assemblyperson Muhammad Farid Saad has lashed out at the DAP for saying BN's call for a vote of no confidence against the chief minister was merely "wishful thinking".

Farid (left, top photo) said BN leaders responded to the idea as Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng has dared his opponents to file the motion at the coming state legislative assembly sitting.

Before this, Lim said he wanted a snap election to save Malaysia and Penang.

He had proposed the idea to seek a fresh mandate for his tenure as chief minister after being charged on two counts of corruption last June.

However, on Sunday, Lim abandoned the idea when it was rejected by PKR. Negotiations failed after PKR's request for two DAP seats was deemed " infeasible" by the DAP.

"When the proposal (for snap polls) was dropped, does it mean that the DAP and Lim have also dropped the idea of saving Penang and Malaysia?" Farid asked in a statement.

"Is it because Lim is still safe as the chief minister of Penang?"

"Who is really wishful thinking? There was someone whose idea for a snap election remained wishful thinking when it was rejected by PKR,” Farid said.

"Enough, don't continue to point your fingers at others. Penangites are fed up and find all this nauseating, " he said.

Farid was responding to Lim's political secretary Wong Hon Wai who said it was "wishful thinking" for BN state chief Teng Chang Yeow (right, top photo) and Farid to raise the no-confidence vote issue.

Wong urged Teng and Farid to convince their friends in BN first to file a vote of no-confidence against Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak over the international probe on the 1MDB financial scandal.

Otherwise, BN leaders lacked the moral high ground to call for a vote of no-confidence against Lim, Wong said in a statement.

The Air Itam assemblyperson said it was not necessary to call for a no-confidence vote as the Pakatan Harapan government was solid.
