Tan Sri trio conspiracy

Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun insisted that his police report alleging a high-level conspiracy had helped avert Najib Abdul Razak from being ousted.

But Khairul is facing increasing pressures, not only from the opposition, but also from coalition partner Gerakan, for allegedly making a false police report.

Khairul had claimed that former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail, former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz had provided information to the US to oust Najib.

The US Department of Justice had claimed that at least US$3.5 billion was stolen from 1MDB and is seizing US$1 billion in assets allegedly acquired through the stolen funds.

Meanwhile, Sarawak Report claimed that money from former 1MDB subsidiary SRC International, an energy company now owned by the Finance Ministry, was spent on anti-ageing hormones and home renovation.

Bersih gears up for fifth rally

Electoral reform group Bersih announced that it will go ahead with its fifth rally, this time focusing on the brewing 1MDB scandal.

Police said it is prepared to facilitate the rally if organisers abide by the law.

However, Gerakan Youth chief Tan Keng Liang urged Bersih to rally in a stadium to avoid "chaos".

Terengganu crisis persists

Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said may face disciplinary action for rebelling against the state government, potentially reducing Umno's already tissue-thin majority of two seats if the Kijal state assemblyperson is sacked from the party.

Ajil state assemblyperson Ghazali Taib had also taken aim at the state government, but insisted he remains loyal to Umno.

Najib said the crisis would be dealt with in the best manner possible.

Umno supreme council member Bung Moktar Radin said ‘Malaysian Official 1’ named by US investigators was not discussed at the party's supreme council meeting as they didn't know who he was.

Rights groups are outraged that Ahmad Syukri Yusuf, 22, who was charged with raping a 14-year-old girl, avoided prison after he married his victim.
