Iron fist for opposition, kid gloves for Umno leaders

YOURSAY | ‘You’ve heard it from the IGP - making a false police report is no longer an offence.’

IGP: 'Plot against PM' case closed, report based on assumptions

Vijay47: Inspector-general of police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar, once again you offer totally unnecessary reason why you are fully qualified to be PM Najib Razak's chief police officer.

Your justification for letting off Umno Youth vice-chief Khairul Azwan Harun scot-free is one that any other person of honour would die of even to contemplate.

Khalid, where a police report is made, one of two things must happen - the person reported on is charged if the report is true, or the person making the report if false.

You suggest that Khairul need not be charged since his false report was based on assumption. Tell me, Khalid, when indeed does a false report arise?

When your brother the thug attacked a church, you did not charge him. Was that fact also an assumption, or like Hishammuddin Hussein would say, a perception?

Former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akthar Aziz, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) chief Abu Kassim Mohamed and ex-attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail should consider themselves lucky if you don't charge them for initiating action on allegations you have decided do not warrant any action. Yes, that is my assumption.

Anonymous 1058841433936091: Khairul should be arrested. He is Umno Youth no 2.

He is surely educated and knowledgeable enough to know you must have some evidence before you lodge a police report. Arrest him and charge him for lodging a false report!

Speaking Sense: So this means I can make a false police report about anything and against anyone, even false accusations and damaging one's reputation, and the police would not do anything?

9051438068738: Okay, Malaysia, you have heard it from the IGP - making a false police report is no longer an offence.

Slumdog: Yes, well done, IGP. With a straight face, you announced that you will not investigate Khairul’s report because his report was based on assumptions.

This is an example of an Umno supporter being treated with kid gloves. If this was someone else, the person would be charged for wasting police’s time and resources.

And in usual Royal Malaysian Police’s (PDRM) standard operation procedures (SOP), he would be handcuffed, paraded in purple garb and remanded in custody.

No doubt the powers-to-be realised that if this dimwit was charged and the case proceeded to court, it would open a can of worms that would make the Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) very uncomfortable.

Kawak: If such defamation against these former top three government officials was done by an opposition leader, the police would have looked into the Penal Code for specific provisions to charge the "culprit".

I wonder why the police had not use Sections 499-502 of the Penal Code to charge this deputy Umno Youth leader for criminal defamation?

Existential Turd: Pua made the "assumption" that MO1 is Najib, so by IGP's own reasoning, he should not press charges against Pua.

By all accounts, Pua's reasoning is on much stronger grounds than the Umno Youth vice-chair’s.

Artong Penang: On one hand, the police had two men arrested and jailed for making a police report against a sitting PM for alleged corruption and on the other hand, this political leader was kindly advised not to do it again for making false police report.

Double standards, by any moral criteria, are obviously immoral.

Fairman: IGP, your job is to record statements from the complainant and the three Tan Sris. Then you submit the IPs (investigation papers) to the attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali.

It is for him to decide or give you further instruction. You cannot NFA (no further action) the case.

Headhunter: Those who make false police reports must be hauled up and charged for causing mischiefs.

I hope the three Tan Sris sue him for ruining their reputation and make him pay, otherwise these type of nuisance will continue unabated. The police and the courts should also charge them for wasting their precious time.

Cogito Ergo Sum: By refraining from taking action, the authorities have opened the flood gates for future police reports to be lodged based on assumptions.

Abuse of the government investigative process is criminal in any book. At the very least, criminal defamation had been committed.

Raja Chulan: How convenient (case closed) when it is their own kind. Can the IGP be professional and be an IGP for all Malaysians? Can he carry out his job fairly, without fear or favour?

I doubt it. He is a manifestation of the many things wrong here in Malaysia. God save Malaysia!

BohChaiSee: Khairul, promise us you will not do that again. Good boy. You may go now.
