The US Department of Justice (DOJ) had put Malaysian Official 1 (MO1) in its documents to sow the seeds of chaos in Malaysia, an Umno Youth leader claims.

Federal Territories Umno Youth chief Razlan Rafii said the propaganda stemming from MO1 was being used to turn Malaysians against one another.

"They created MO1 to make people excited, so Malaysians will hunt for who is MO1, make us preoccupied... Make us think of all sorts of things.

"In the end we will fight among ourselves, and when more news comes out, it will cause chaos in the country," Razlan said in an interview with Malaysiakini last Friday.

His comments were made a day before Umno supreme council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan said that only an idiot did not know who MO1 was.

Critics have been saying that MO1 is none other than Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

However, Rahman said, Najib was not named in the DOJ's lawsuits because he was not involved in the case.

The DOJ is seeking to seize more than US$1 billion in assets it says were acquired using funds stolen from 1MDB.

It also claimed that MO1 had received US$731 million from more than US$3.5 billion in misappropriated 1MDB monies.

Razlan said the US is known for fabricating evidence in order to meddle with the affairs of other countries.

He cited the claim made in 2003, by then US president George W Bush that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction, in order to justify the US-led invasion of Iraq.

The claim has since been proven false.

"The US thinks that Malaysia is small, that they can destroy Malaysia overnight.

"They think that if they do a press statement (on Malaysia) now, tomorrow Malaysia will change government," Razlan said.

'Abuse of right to assemble'

As for the planned Bersih 5 protests against 1MDB, Razlan considered it an abuse of the right to assemble to attack the country's leadership.

He said this should be considered as treason, and that the police should clamp down on Bersih.

He did not rule out the possibility of joining the red shirts to counter the Bersih rally if the yellow themed protest goes ahead.

"If Bersih goes ahead and it threatens the government's position, if there is a call to go against them, I will be there," Razlan said.
