Tepoh assemblyperson Hishamuddin Abdul Karim has denied rumours naming him as a potential Terengganu menteri besar candidate, endorsed by Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah).

The PAS lawmaker in a statement yesterday cited an article by The Star's Joceline Tan, ‘Stirred and shaken again' - on the latest drama involving yet another expected showdown between former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said and incumbent MB Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman.

"This is the second time I am linked to PAN (Amanah). Therefore, I feel it is appropriate for me to make an honest and accountable denial, so that it will not be misunderstood by the people and my constituents.

"Alhamdulillah, I am a PAS member who will remain committed to the party's chosen struggle and I pray to Allah SWT to allow me to remain with the PAS struggle, as it guides its members based on the Al-Quran and Sunnah," he said.

Hishamuddin also said that linking him to Amanah is an unethical move and urged a stop to such stories.

"If it continues to happen, it is with sinister motives. Enough with the spreading of reports such as these, as they brings no benefit to the community, rakyat and state," he stressed.

According to The Star report, Hishamuddin's name was purportedly mentioned by an Amanah leader while in conversation with a Kuala Terengganu-based businessman.

Ahmad Said had last week once again threatened to quit Umno, triggering another round of rumours on possible snap polls in the state.

The ruling party currently has a slim state majority of 17 seats to PAS' 14 and PKR with one seat.

The state Umno government nearly collapsed in 2014 when Ahmad Said was removed as MB and briefly quit the party, along with two other lawmakers.
