PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said today he is not aware of any discussion endorsing the membership criteria for former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin's soon-to-be-registered party.

This comes after veteran journalist A Kadir Jasin said promoters of Muhyiddin's party had reached out to PKR, DAP, Amanah and PAS, who were receptive to the idea of a bumiputera-only party, so as to avoid friendly fire among anti-BN forces.

"I don't know, there was no discussion. It is not my party, so how should I know? My party is PKR, but I have close relations with the whole of Malaysia," Azmin said.

He said this after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Semenyih 2 water processing plant in Sepang.

Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad will be the new party's chairperson, Muhyiddin its president, Gerakan Ketua Cawangan Malaysia (GKCM) president Kamarul Azman Habibur Rahman the secretary-general, while former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir will be the treasurer, Kadir said.

Other members of the pro-tem committee include former Langkawi Umno Wanita chief Anina Saadudin, former Bendang Baru Umno Youth chief Akhramsyah Sanusi and youth group Challenger leader Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman, said Kadir, who is privy to discussions on the new party.

'Good ties with federal gov't'

Commenting on the Semenyih 2 project, Azmin said the plant can process up to 100 million litres of water a day to sustain the needs of 100,000 users in Semenyih, Beranang, part of Hulu Langat and new developments along the Kajang-Seremban Highway (Lekas).

He said the plant is part of the government's strategy to ensure the water services industry is efficient.

"Even though it is the federal government's obligation, we still maintain good cooperative ties with the federal government and are willing to use our reserves in the interest of the people.

"This is a proactive move (in response) to the rise in population and the demand for water," he said.

The Semenyih 2 plant costs RM180 million and will be a new source of water, pending the completion of the Langat 2 plant in 2019.

The government reportedly slashed 30 percent of estimated costs by awarding the construction contract through open tender.

The government is also in the process of building a 400 million litre/day capacity water treatment plant in Labohan Dagang, Kuala Langat.
