Former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin is set to register his new political party tomorrow, dubbed Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia.

This was confirmed by a source close to Muhyiddin, who said the party will be known as Bersatu in short.

Meanwhile, an invitation has gone out to the media announcing that Muhyiddin will personally hand in the registration documents tomorrow afternoon.

The former Umno deputy president will hand in the documents to the Registrar of Societies in Putrajaya.

If the party is successfully registered, it will be a splinter of Umno and its core members are expected to likely comprise former Umno members.

Muhyiddin was to submit the new party's registration documents last week but was delayed due to corrections to the registration form.

There has been speculation that the party will only be open to the bumiputera community and the word "pribumi" in the party's name further strengthens the speculation.

Muhyiddin is expected to be the party's president while former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad is expected to be its chairperson.

July last year, Muhyiddin was sacked as deputy prime minister for questioning Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak's handling of 1MDB and the multi-billion deposits in his personal bank accounts.

He was subsequently sacked from Umno in June this year.

Najib has denied wrongdoing and stressed he had never taken public funds for personal gain.
