Allegations have surfaced concerning a sex video and photographs allegedly involving a senior politician from Terengganu.

Said to be an old issue that started in 2009, The Star Online reported that it is currently being recirculated on the social media.

The politician had allegedly received sexual favours in return for timber projects given to some women.

A source, whom The Star Online said was close to the politician, told the portal that the issue was being brought up to defame the politician.

“I know both of them well and I can say that this is an old story which was used to threaten the politician to get tenders as well as money.

“This woman has a problem and is always trying to prey on rich victims, including politicians, to extort money,” the source, reportedly a politician, is quoted as saying.

The Star said it is believed that the sex video and photographs were first circulated by the blog 'Malaysia Response'.

However, attempts by Malaysiakini to find the blog have been unsuccessful.

This is not the first time allegations of politicians involved in sex videos have surfaced.

PKR de facto leader Anwar Ibrahim was embroiled in a sex video scandal purported to be of him and a young woman in 2011. He vehemently denied that he was the man in the video.

Other politicians accused of being involved in sex videos have also mostly denied their involvement.

Former health minister Dr Chua Soi Lek, however, admitted in 2008 that he was the man featured in a video depicting sexual intercourse in a hotel room.
