A Muslim preacher was sentenced to two years' jail by the High Court in Kuala Lumpur today after he pleaded guilty to possessing material related to acts of terrorism in March.

Judicial Commissioner Nordin Hassan ordered the accused, Anwar Ab Rawi, 40, of Kuala Terengganu, to serve his prison sentence starting from the date of arrest on March 22, 2016.

Nordin said the court is serious in addressing issues related to terrorism.

Anwar committed the offence by having in his possession a book entitled 'Misteri Pasukan Panji Hitam' (Rahsia Thaifah Manahumah-Kumpulan Elit Pasukan Islam) and four still images on his mobile phone at a house located in Lot 12389, Taman Manir Indah, Kampung Banggol Tuan Muda, Kuala Terengganu, at 8.48 am on March 22, 2016.

All the items were related to terrorism and terrorist groups, namely Jemaah Islamiah (JI), al-Qaeda and Islamic State (IS).

Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Mustaffa P Kunyalam prosecuted, while lawyer Saiffuddin Othman represented the accused.
