Federal Territories PAS Youth has lodged a police report against whistleblower website Sarawak Report over an article claiming that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak had paid the Islamic party around RM90 million to distance itself from the federal opposition coalition.

"In the article, the portal claimed that 'RM90 million is widely reckoned to have flowed into the top echelons of PAS in recent months'.

"Sarawak Report must be responsible for those allegations as it were only made based on 'suspicions' and 'allegations that has been widespread'," said FT PAS Youth chief Khairil Nizam Khirudin in a statement distributed after the police report was lodged.

He said the movement considers the allegations as serious since it include accusations that PAS leaders had taken bribes and that its current political cooperation with Umno came about because the party was bought over by the ruling coalition.

This, he said, was why they lodged the police report, asking the police to investigate Sarawak Report and ascertain the real motive behind the site's publication of the article titled “As Najib denies all over 1MDB, let’s not forget his many other criminal connections" on Aug 6.

Khairul said PAS Youth rejects such wild claims that is being used to bring negative perception over the ongoing political cooperation between Umno and PAS.

"PAS Youth is consistently against corruption, abuse of power, all transgressions of the government and is open to dialogue over matters of that are in the interest of Islam, the rakyat, and the country.

"In the 1MDB-linked financial scandal, we always call for the creation of a royal commission of inquiry and reject foreign intervention into the country's political affairs," he added.

The police report lodged earlier today at the Dang Wangi police station by FT PAS Youth deputy chief Nurul Islam Mohd Yusof, noted that even the portal denied that it has evidence to back the claim, as it was only based on 'hearsay'.

"We realise that the United Kingdom-based portal had written the false news against PAS and there exist a third party in the country which is orchestrating the spread of this vile news.

"I request that the police investigate Sarawak Report as well as the one orchestrating and supplying the false news to the site's reporters," said Nurul Islam in his police report.

In its article, Sarawak Report had claimed that Najib had managed to pull PAS away from the federal opposition's bosom by supposedly disbursing over RM90 million to the Islamic party's top echelons.

However after being threatened with lawsuits, the site's editor Clare Rewcastle-Bworn had clarified that the claim was based only on "widespread allegations".

The article had raised the ire of the Islamic party with several of its leaders speaking out against the accusation and statements issued threatening legal action over the matter.
