An auxiliary fireman in Kuala Nerus did not expect that the accident victims he was trying to help were his own father and twin brother.

“I was speechless and could only stare at their remains after that,” said Azlan Mustapha, 32, a family member of the victims involved in an accident between a lorry and a Proton Saga FLX in Kampung Bukit Nanas, near Kuala Nerus, early this morning.

He said on learning of the accident he went to the scene as usual to help the victims.

But when he was about to report the status of the accident and the victims to the State Fire Operations Centre, only then did he realise that the accident victims were none other then his own family members, he said.

“I initially did not suspect anything and went about my duties as usual, furthermore the condition of the car was very bad and the registration number was also not clear.

“But when I saw the identity cards of the victims I was shocked to see they were my family members, including my father and twin brother. I was stunned to see their bodies,” Azlan told Bernama.

In the accident at about 1am, those killed were Mustapha Abdullah,56, and his son Azman Mustapha, 32.

Two more deceased were identified as Mohd Sabri Ngah, 48, and the driver of the car, Alif Faizal Ibrahim @ Ismail, 26, who is Mustapha’s cousin.

They were reportedly on their way home to Kampung Seberang Takir when a three tonne lorry driven by a 46-year-old man entered into the opposite lane and collided with the car driven by Alif Faizal.

The victims were sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital, Kuala Terengganu, while the lorry driver was detained for further investigation.
