YOURSAY | ‘It's called the ‘Idris Diet Index of Tragedy’, or Idiot, for short.’

Idris Haron: What economic downturn, 'no one's died of hunger'

CQ Muar: Malacca CM Idris Haron, 29 days not enough to hold Hari Raya open houses?

That's the kind of a talk from one who is well-fed with taxpayers’ money, and needs more holidays. You reckon many of those under-privileged Malays can afford to hold open houses like you?

Tell us, who are the main beneficiaries of this country's wealth, how they wallow in luxury living in palatial mansions, own a string of imported cars, going overseas for shopping sprees, so on and so forth?

No wonder, nobody has died of starvation in this country. It's people like you who are like predators, devouring and living on others.

Hearty Malaysian: Idris, if anyone dies of hunger, it is already a famine, not an economic downturn.

There are many businesses retrenching people and you are moaning that there is even not enough time to hold the Hari Raya open house?

It just goes to show how divorced the ruling elite of Umno is from the economic reality.

FellowMalaysian: Idris, your opinion showed you are totally ignorant of the plight of the poor, especially those staying in the kampung and semi-urban areas.

How do you manage to hang on to your post as Malacca CM when you don't go to the ground and 'feel' the economic hardship and suffering of the very folk who voted you and your party to power?

Aren't you ashamed of yourself that you could ever believe and say that your subjects live in the laps of luxury? Ignoramus leaders like you make Umno a laughing jackass.

You have just humiliated the kampung folk by throwing scornful derisions at their plight and poverty, and you do not deserve to be their MB.

The Analyser: Malaysia may not be suffering from an economic downturn, but it is an economic disaster.

The inequitable distribution of the nation's wealth has led to a situation where much of the country's wealth has been shipped offshore, while far too many people are living in poverty or near poverty.

The nation's resources have been plundered, with no consideration for either the present or the future. The nation is massively dependent on FDIs (foreign direct investments) and foreign innovation to keep its head above water, yet the education system has destroyed any innovative entrepreneurship the country might harbour.

Primary industry is an appalling disaster lacking diversity and incapable of feeding the nation. Should I go on?

Cogito Ergo Sum: We now have a new index for measuring prosperity. It's called the ‘Idris Diet Index of Tragedy’, or Idiot, for short.

If no one tragically dies from hunger from the lack of food, then that nation is prosperous. Indeed, those who subscribe to this theory are idiots.

In fact, the inventor should be nominated for the inaugural Noble Prize for idiocy.

Mojo Jojo: It would seem that the new economic benchmark for a 'downturn' is now measured by the number of people who perish in hunger.

Thank you, Professor Idris, for your wonderful lecture on 'Umnoconomics,' which will undoubtedly earn you an exalted seat in the cabinet, yet.

Vijay47: Every day I learn something new. I must be blessed to discover the latest international standards of prosperity.

First, having a marathon run on a local road is testimony to a nation's progress. Why, we are now as developed as New York, Boston, and London! Heck, we are even better than Dakar, which has only a miserable desert rally.

Second, what is 29 or 60 days of Hari Raya celebrations compared to seven generations of riches?

Third, having food on the table is another sure sign of abundance. Would that be nasi lemak or Almas Caviar, avec boisson, monsier? Teh tarik is, of course, on the house.

Though I am not too sure about the roof. But anyway, a good time was had by all at the Umno Ampang divisional meetings.

Bamboo: Previously, without GST (goods and services tax), the Malay folk in my hometown got by, barely surviving with daily expenses.

Since the GST, they don't have enough to get by and keep borrowing money from my mother for daily expenses.

Yes, no one starved, but many are in a tough situation to survive, while the first couple live in luxury with allegedly stolen funds from the people.

Apa 1Malaysia?: My boss has a simple concept for the company to grow - hire the people who are smarter than him so that they could help the company.

Look at PM Najib Razak and Malaysia. I do not see the future, even though no one died of hunger yet... Malaysia deserves better.

RisinGstaR: CM, you have to try harder to apple-polish MO1 in order to score one of the hot vice-president seats, as there are only two vacancies now.

Anonymous 29051438068738: Do Malaysians need any more proof that Umno appoints state "leaders" based solely on their potential to demonstrate unadulterated imbecility whenever the occasion arises?

I understand some say this is peculiar to Malacca - given the series of rank idiots, racists and perverts (not necessarily in that order) who have risen to helm the place.
