Pua: Those who plunder public coffers are anti-Malay, not DAP

A DAP lawmaker has lambasted Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for claiming that DAP is anti-Malay.

Turning the tables, Tony Pua alleged that Umno leaders who plunder public coffers are the real enemy of the Malays, and not DAP which wants the funds returned and those responsible imprisoned.

Najib yesterday questioned how Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), spearheaded by his rivals, would fight for the Malays when it is working with DAP.

He also noted that former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad and ex-deputy premier Muhyiddin Yassin had described the predominantly Chinese DAP as a chauvinist party, which is opposed to Islam and the Malays, in the past.

Muhyiddin is the pro tem president of Bersatu while Mahathir is expected to serve as its chairperson.

Meanwhile, Pua said it appears that Najib would continue to level wild and racist allegations to create a smokescreen for the 1MDB imbroglio.

"Until today, Najib is unable to provide a shred of evidence that DAP is opposed to the rights and interests of the Malays.

"In fact, under the leadership of DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng as Penang chief minister, we have proven that all races are treated equally.

"For example, the Penang government increased the allocation for Islamic affairs from RM13 million when the state was under BN to RM50 million today," he added in a statement.

Ironically, Pua pointed out that Umno's Chinese counterpart MCA has attacked DAP for showing favouritism to the Malays.

"DAP and its allies have worked diligently to expose the 1MDB issue so that the people know the real face of Najib as well as Umno-BN.

"This is why Najib and his supporters will continue to attack DAP as anti-Malay. They will mask reality to fool the people, defend their posts, avoid legal action and enjoy the perks that come with their positions," he said.

Najib has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain, and blamed such allegations on Mahathir and those whom he claims are conspiring to topple him.

Attorney-general Mohamed Apandi Ali has also cleared the prime minister of any wrongdoing.
