As the day of the #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 rally nears, the organisers will send their notice to hold their rally to the police tomorrow.

One of the representatives of the organisers, Anis Syafiqah, said that they will send the notice exactly 10 days before the rally is to be held on Aug 27.

"We will send the notice exactly 10 days before the rally to Dang Wangi police district headquarters.

"Regarding the permission from the venue owner, we will discuss with the police tomorrow," Anis told Malaysiakini.

The youth group, who call themselves the #TangkapMalaysianOfficial1 Coalition, plans to hold its Aug 27 rallies in Kuala Lumpur and in Kota Kinabalu.

In Kuala Lumpur, they plan to march from several places in the city to Dataran Merdeka.

Anis also said they are aiming to garner as many as 5,000 people for the rally in KL.

"Our early estimates target 5,000 people, but we are optimistic and will work hard to get more Malaysians (to attend).

"We need quantity and also quality in terms of awareness. We are not like the red shirt rally, if it is just to be about numbers.

"We want people who attend (our rally) because they are aware of the issue," she said.

The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has filed a court action to forfeit assets worth about US$1 billion allegedly purchased with stolen 1MDB funds.

Apart from the stepson of the prime minister, Riza Aziz, and controversial businessman Jho Low, the term 'Malaysian Official 1' was used 36 times in the civil court action papers, which are more than 100 pages.

Critics have been quick to say that Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak is Malaysian Official 1.

However, BN strategic communications director Abdul Rahman Dahlan maintains that DOJ only used the phrase ‘Malaysian Official 1’ and never named Najib because he was not involved in the matter and is not part of the investigation.

Meanwhile, inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar said that the police would examine the notice from the organiser thoroughly first before they would give their approval.

He said that the organiser must abide by the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) during the rally.

"They (the organiser) have to follow the law under the (PAA). If they follow those laws, we will examine this(notice)," he said when met by reporters in Putrajaya today.

Asked whether there are any specific locations allowed by the police for the rally, Khalid said the notice to hold the rally would have to be submitted first.

"Let's see where they want to request (for the location). They have to send their application first. Only then will we discuss," he said.
