Cops stay alert over possible threats as National Day approaches

The police will be constantly on the alert even though they have not received any information on bomb threats during the National Day celebration on Aug 31, said Internal Security and Public Order Department director Muhammad Sabtu Osman.

He said the police would be prepared at all times and conduct surveillance and well as enhance security.

Among the areas of focus would be Bukit Aman, Parliament and entertainment centres in the federal capital, he told reporters after officially opening the presentation of wings ceremony to participants of the Basic Tactical Parachuting Course Series 1/2016 at the North Brigade Shooting Range in Ulu Kinta in Ipoh today.

"We have held discussions with the Kuala Lumpur police chief on the security aspects such as increasing the number of personnel and surveillance in hotspots in the city.

"But it is important that we need information to tackle any threats. So far, we have information that there will be demonstrations but there's no information on bomb threats," he said.
