Mayor shocked over graft arrest

Kuala Lumpur mayor Amin Nordin Abdul Aziz expressed shock over the arrest of a high-ranking Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) officer by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor however wondered if the "good officer" was a victim of colleagues and contractors who were jealous of the DBKL official’s achievements.

This puzzled a senior MACC officer, who wondered why Tengku Adnan appeared to willing to overlook possible breaches of the law.

Clueless T'ganu MB

Terengganu Menteri Besar Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman said that he was unaware of any previous request from Olympic medal-winning cyclist Azizulhasni Awang for aid from the state government.

This was after Azizulhasni took a sarcastic swipe at Ahmad Razif in his appreciation note after bagging a bronze medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, “thanking” the MB for not contributing to his training.

The elite national cyclist powered his way through the heats and booked himself a place in the final six in the keirin cycling event. The 28-year-old rider subsequently won third place to bag Malaysia's first ever medal in cycling at the Olympics.

Immigration depot deaths

Two Cambodian women have claimed that they saw inmates at the Juru immigration detention centre so severely abused by immigration officers that some had died.

The news led to calls by human rights NGOs for Malaysian authorities to immediately investigate the claims.

The Immigration Department however dismissed the allegations.
