Thailand arrests suspects linked to bombings in southern provinces

Thailand’s military administration today, announced that 15 suspects allegedly linked to a series of bombings in seven southern provinces, are being detained in a military camp in Bangkok.

Thai News Agency (TNA) reports that Colonel Burin Tongprapai, a leading legal adviser to the military administration, said authorities have initially detained 17 suspects at a special military camp in Bangkok and then released two of them.

However the two released suspects are to be recaptured and the whole group of 17 would likely be charged tomorrow.

Tongprapai’s announcement showed the military played a leading role in the investigation into the serial bombings.

Thai authorities have neither disclosed the motivation behind these explosions nor the names of the arrested suspects.

No groups have taken responsibility of the serial bombings last week, which killed four people and injured dozens of others, including European tourists.

The military administration and police have rejected the assumption that these bombings are international terror attacks and point to them as acts of sabotage.
