The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is expected to summon an Umno lawmaker for questioning.

Sources claimed this is over investigations concerning alleged abuse of power in a federal agency helmed by the veteran politician.

Malaysiakini learnt that his wife, a former actress, had her statement recorded late last month in connection with the case.

Investigations are said to have stemmed from the agency's fund being purportedly used to purchase unit trust.

According to sources, the probe is being carried out to determine if there were any kickbacks involved in the deal.

"The MP is being summoned for questioning and not arrested," said one source.

The latest case comes hot on the heels of MACC arresting three senior government officials including a 'Datuk Seri' attached with the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) for alleged corruption and money laundering last week.

Utusan Malaysia reported that the commission has also identified 19 individuals who have links with the arrested trio.

This included three contractors in Kuala Lumpur, 10 in Malacca and six company owners and staff of a government department in Kelantan.

The 19 would be summoned to facilitate investigations.

MACC is also on the hunt for an important witness, who is believed to be the right-hand man of one of those arrested.

Prior to this, MACC’s new chief commissioner Dzulkifli Ahmad warned that the commission would come down hard on those involved in graft, including civil servants.
