Lab test on food poisoning in MCKK to be ready in five days

The laboratory test result on the sample of water and kitchen utensils taken from the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) following the food poisoning suffered by 56 of its students, is expected to be completed in at least five days.

Perak Health director Dr Juita Ghazalie said the sample was passed on to the bacteriology department of the Public Health Laboratory Ipoh, yesterday.

“For now, the cleaning of the kitchen and dining hall of the MCKK hostel is being carried out,” she said in a statement in Ipoh today.

Last Wednesday, the students who showed symptoms of vomiting, diarrhea, nausea, fever, dizziness and abdominal pain after having their meals at the college’s dining hall were confirmed by the medical officers for food poisoning.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the van used to transport food from the kitchen to the dining hall was dirty, and so were the kitchen utensils, such as trays, jugs, water dispensers, bowls and plates.

Dr Juita said, the students were now in healthy condition and could carry out their daily activities as usual.
