Gov't orders local councils to tell businesses to fly flag

The Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry is to instruct all local councils in the country to notify business premises in their areas to fly the national flag during the National Day celebration period.

Minister Noh Omar said today the local councils would have to ensure that the national flags hoisted were not old, worn out or faded.

"We are Malaysians. The Jalur Gemilang (national flag) is our symbol of patriotism, pride and solidarity as well as love for the country," he said to reporters in Tanjong Karang.

Noh had earlier launched the Selangor-level National Day month and 1Malaysia Community celebration organised by the Information Department.

Information Department deputy director-general Mohd Sukari AB Hamid was also present at the event.

Noh commended the Information Department for its efforts to strengthen the 1Malaysia community by emphasising the role of NGOs and the community to foster and enhance the spirit of patriotism during the Merdeka month.

Earlier, he flagged off a convoy of over 50 vehicles decorated with the national flag on a 20km trip around Tanjong Karang, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam to boost the National Day celebration in these areas.
