Open tenders problematic, assets declarations dangerous

Federal Territories Minister Tengku Adnan Mansor said while open tenders are used whenever possible, the government sometimes loses money because the lowest bidder might not be the most competent.

Tengku Adnan, who is also known as Ku Nan, said this as the Kuala Lumpur City Halls comes under the spotlight after a senior officer was arrested for corruption.

He also also said it was dangerous to impose asset declaration, as it would make family members targets for crime.

DAP's Segambut MP Lim Lip Eng says if this was the case, the government should ban the publication of the list of 20 richest Malaysians.

Dr M: Tan Sri Trio betrayed

Denying being part of a conspiracy, former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad said no action has been taken against Prime MInister Najib Abdul Razak over alleged corruption because the 'Tan Sri Trio' were betrayed.

The 'trio' refers to former Bank Negara governor Zeti Akhtar Aziz, former attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Abu Kassim Mohamed.

Mahathir also said it was ridiculous to claim that 'Malaysian Official 1' in the US Department of Justice lawsuits is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, since the official is described as a relative of Najib's stepson Riza Aziz.

The Agong's cousin, who heads NGO Majlis Kerabat Diraja Kedah, also ticked off Langkawi MP Nawawi Ahmad for dragging the Agong into the matter by posting online that 'MO1' is the Agong. Despite the evidence, Nawawi denies doing so and lodged a police report.

Namewee arrested

Rapper Namewee was arrested after touching down at Kuala Lumpur International Airport, for his music video clip that allegedly touched on religious sensitivity.

Police earlier warned that Namewee, who was then overseas, will be arrested over the video once he steps on Malaysian soil.

Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong caused a stir when he started quivering and swaying to one side while delivering the National Day rally speech.

His office said he was unsteady from standing too long. He resumed his speech after an hour's rest.
