Inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar has assured PKR lawmaker Rafizi Ramli that if the latter files a police report against him, the matter will be looked into.

"If there is basis for an investigation, surely it will be investigated," Khalid told Malaysiakini.

He was responding to Rafizi announcing that he is mulling a police report against Khalid, for his alleged failure to act on past reports against tycoon Jho Low and other individuals linked to the 1MDB issue.

The PKR vice-president claimed this inaction of the police was in contrast to their swift action on reports against critics of the 1MDB scandal, including himself.

However, Khalid took Rafizi to task for pretending to be in the dark about the police being in the midst of investigating 1MDB.

"I have been making regular statements on this and the last (statement) was that we are discussing it with the attorney-general now," he said.

"Rafizi should read Malaysiakini more (to keep himself abreast with the developments)," Khalid said.

Last week, Khalid said the police have completed the first phase of their investigation into 1MDB, which is restricted to the five recommendations by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) as ordered by the cabinet.

He said the police are waiting for further orders from the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) regarding the matter, and estimated the instructions to be issued in a week or two.

"I expect that it will take about one to two weeks from now, as it is a very thick investigation paper; there are a lot of things to go through. So it will take some time," Khalid had said.
