PKR is prepared to negotiate with Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) on seat allocations for the next general election if the goal is one-to-one fights with BN.

PKR vice-president Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said PKR was willing to negotiate with any parties if it meant taking on the ruling coalition on a stronger footing.

"I believe all parties that desire to fight BN will be willing to sit at the same negotiation table to ensure direct fights.

"Based on this principle, I believe we can negotiate with any party; there is no issue," he told Malaysiakini.

Yesterday, Bersatu pro tem president Muhyiddin Yassin conceded that some of the seats it is eyeing overlapped with PKR and PAS.

Muhyiddin said Bersatu would commence seat negotiation with these parties as soon as the Registrar of Societies approves its registration.

He had said the seats should be given to the party that has the best chance of winning against BN.

Shamsul Iskandar, who is also Bukit Katil MP, said who got what could only be decided after the negotiations.

"If they (Bersatu) are eyeing certain seats, that is their right.

"But what will happen to the seats, we cannot decide until after the negotiations," he said.

Meanwhile, PAS election director Mustafa Ali said his party cannot decide on how to proceed until after it finalises its strategy for the next general election.

"At this stage, PAS has yet to finalise its strategy for the 14th general election - whether we can have direct fights, three-cornered fights or a combination of the two.

"It is too early for seat negotiations," he told Malaysiakini.

However, Mustafa said he personally preferred if PAS opted for direct fights.

He said he had previously met with Muhyiddin and had general discussions but noted that Bersatu's registration has yet to be approved.

"Wait for PAS to finalise its strategy, then things will be clear. Perhaps at the end of this year," he said.
