A 64-year-old businessman with a 'Datuk' title has been remanded for five days by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), with the order issued by a magistrate’s court in Putrajaya today.

The businessman was picked up yesterday at 4.40pm from his home in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, and is being investigated for receiving kickbacks from logging carried out in an east coast state.

The MACC applied for a seven-day remand order but magistrate Nik Isfahanie Tasnim Abdul Rahman allowed only five days.

The businessman is being investigated under Section 16 of the MACC Act 2009 for receiving kickbacks of RM500,000 from the contractor of the logging company.
